1990 Junior Championship


Cloone played Mohill in the first round of the junior championship in Fenagh on the August Bank holiday Monday 1990. It was the same day as the Cloone Agricultural show, but on the day the Cloone panel resisted any temptation to indulge in activities that might affect their performance later in the evening in the Championship game, and likewise turned up in great shape for the game. Mohill who carried the favourites tag were surprisingly beaten by a Cloone team made up of a number of veterans from the 1980 championship winning team and a number of talented youngsters. 

In the semi ­final Cloone played Glencar Manor Hamilton in Pairc Sean and following a tense battle Cloone emerged victorious and qualified to meet Aughawillan in the final. The final was played as part of a triple header in Pairc Sean MacDiarmada on Sunday September 9th. The expectation was the it would be wins for the triple A’s but with captain Mick Moylet in plundering form at full forward Cloone scored four goals and went on to win the title. The Cloone panel togged out on the day were Gerry Moran, Louis Brennan, Jim Harte, Gerard Doherty, Aidan Donohue, Sean Doherty, Michael Murphy, Kieran Brennan Gerry McGovern, Peter O Donnell Cathal Flood, Jim McCabe, James Lohan Mick Moylet (Capt.) Timmy Beirne, Paudge McCrann
Adrian Charles Mickey Lohan Barry Murphy, Mel Kellegher Shane Tiernan Pascal Keegan M.J. McNamara, Brian Higgins. Joe McNamee who played in the earlier rounds including the semi-final was unavailable for the final.
